View Full Version : Testers Wanted: "Sleigh" Furniture 5/31/05 Updated Toybox UV mapping

SnowStorm
20th Mar 2005, 05:32 AM
:new:5/31/05 - I've uploaded a new version of the Toybox with the uvmapping cleaned up. It should now be mapped so that pictures can be put on all sides cleanly. Both this and the original version use the same guid, so you only can have one or the other in game. Download SS_Sleigh_Toy_Box_Mesh_UVMapFixed.zip to get the updated version.

Original Post:
Here is a new mesh for a toddler bed, "sleigh" style. This object is cloned from the Kinder Kontainer crib, and it should have all the animations of the original crib. I modified the behaviours to only allow toddlers, hopefully I did it right. The object is Colour enabled and EP ready. The frame is recolourable. The bedding is linked to the original crib bedding materials. I've included one frame recolour, and the Bob the Builder bedding shown in the picture.

Updated 3/23/05
I've made some small tweaks to the toddler bed. I also modified the Bob the builder bedding so it can be used on a crib. Parts of it do appear flipped, unfortunately that is a limitation of the way Maxis mapped the object. I've combined the bed, bed recolour and bedding recolour into on zip file.

Added 3/23/05
By popular request here is the matching Sleigh style changing table. I separated out the frame from the pad/accessories, so they can now be recoloured separately! Included in the zip file is the changing table, a cherry wood frame recolour and a bob the builder pad/accessories recolour.

Added 3/25/05
I've added a matching toy box. Included in the toybox zip are two recolors, the oak and cherry to match the bed and changing table. The toy box textures are linked to the original maxis toy box.

Added 3/25/05
By request here is a matching sleigh style crib.

Added 3/25/05
I've added a white recolor for the 4 items.

Updated 4/1/05
As requested here is the high chair. I separated the frame from the cushions/tray. The cushions and tray use the Maxis high chair textures. I've included the oak, cherry and white recolors for the frame. I also included a bob the builder cushions in the zip.

I've figured out how to retain the tray animation. Unfortuanately to keep the separate frame recolor I ended up loosing the groundfloor shadow. If you've never downloaded the high chair then download sleighHighChair.zip, this contains the highchair, the frame recolors and the bob the builder cushions. (the bob the builder cushions will work on the original maxis high chair also). The SS_High_Chair_With_Anim.zip contains just the high chair package for those who already have the recolors.

Added 3/31/05
I've added a single and a double bed in the sleigh style. Each bed's bedding is linked to the colonial bedding so can use all existing bedding recolors. Each frame has it's own frame texture. I tried linking the single bed texture to the double beds, but that made the single bed's frame blue in the catalog. Each zip file contains the associate recolors. All interactions and animations should be working.

Added 4/1/05
As requested here is an armoire in the sleigh style. It should have all the original actions and animations. I've included the white and cherry recolors in the zip file.

All objects have unique GUIDs and are EP ready.
Poly counts
Toybox : 1722 (original 1012)

Known Issues

Toybox: It is slightly wider than a square so if you try to put it sideways against a wall part of the leg will be in the wall. I'd have to make the toybox narrower to get around it, and I didn't like how it looked.
Toybox: Can't seem to put toys back away.
Changing Table: Back bleeds thru windows.
Toddler Bed: Toddler pulls them self up on a non-existant frame.
Crib: Frame doesn't move
High Chair: Texture doesn't turn dirty. No ground shadow

Please don't post my original object packages on any sites. Recolor to your hearts content. But please post links in this thread to share with others.

To recolor:
Toybox: maxis toy box (Rip Co Toy Bin??)
Toddler Bed: Frame - New package, Bedding - Maxis Crib (The Kinder Container)
Crib: Frame - New package, Bedding - Maxis Crib (The Kinder Kontainer)
Changing Table: Frame - New package, cushions/stuff - Maxis Changing Table (The Sanitation Station)
Armoire: New package
Single Bed: Frame - New package, Bedding - maxis Bed (Colonial Ironwood Bed)
Double Bed: Frame - New package, Bedding - maxis Bed (Colonial Ironwood Bed)
High Chair: Frame - New package, Cushions/Tray - maxis High Chair (Kinder Koddler)

A big Thanks goes out to Jem for helping me test my stuff :gjob:

~One quick question/ assumption: Will the toddler still need the parent assistance on getting in and out of the bed? I assume that they would, but...

Yes they do. The putting to bed animation looks good with the bed though. And heck I sometimes still have to pickup my 3 yr old and stick him in bed! They never want to sleep at that age it seems:)

Cute. And the mobile doesn't look too bad on it either. I did notice in your screen shot that the bed cuts into the wall. Didn't notice that when I had it in game. I'll fix that later today and post an update.

This is great! As for the parent helping the toddler out of the bed, when they learn to walk, they can get out of the crib by themselves.(at least they have in my game.) Thus they will be able to get out of bed! They're pretty sneaky about getting out of the crib too! LOL!

SnowStorm, your stuff is looking great! keep up the good work, I can't wait for the Changing Table. I'll make sure I have it in my Sims. You're amazing! How are you able to make it? Any ideas because I always make to make objects and not really sure how.

Well I started out by reading all the threads and tutorials on object creation. Alot of it made no sence at first. But as I followed the tutorials things started to click. If you want to get into making new objects I recommend you start by reading the tech threads and tutorials. Selecting what software you want to use. Then get to know your tools. I use Blender, Ultimate Unwrap 3d and Paint Shop Pro. I've been using them on and off for about 6 months. I wouldn't suggest you try to make a Sims2 object until you have a good feel for using your graphics, 3d and uv mapper programs. Once you are familiar with them you can concentrate on using the Sim2 programs (Simpe & MeshTool) to import/export the 3d data.

Suggestions:

Become proficient at recolouring using Object Workshop.
Don't get frustrated.
Don't get attached to your initial objects because you may have to scrap them.
Save early and Save often:)
Start with a simple change.
Don't start with lights, mirrors or beds. Or anything you know has animations. Decorative stuff, like statues are usually a good place to get your feet wet.
Search the forum with questions. There is lots and lots of info here.
Be aware that most tutorials are somewhat out of date as the program developers are working on these programs quite often.
Oh and Scenegrapher is your friend when making custom objects!

I have sims2 uni and I test the items before Snow posts them. So I'm not sure what the problem is? I'm going to start trying to help Snow out by doing new beddings and the pad for the change table. Now it's going to take me a while because I'm just learning how to do this. But I'm going to try the Blue's Clue bedding first.

hi there
when I first installed the toddler bed, I had no problems with it, when you released the newer version of it I downloaded it and then went to play my game, it crashed :( That was the only new download I had in my folder. I couldnt even get the game to start.
Oh I am using Uni EP
The bed is adorable and I would love to be able to use it, anyone have any ideas why the newest version made my game crash when the original version didn't?
Thanks
Tina

24th Mar 2005, 01:26 AM
I have the bed installed and I have uni! I am having no problems so far. but try this find it in your download file and remove then try to start the game again. If it crashed it's not a problem, but if it doesn't crash it's the problem and I've no idea why? But I'm going to re-download and install to check it on in my game right now.

OK I just went in and removed both of her items the bed and the changing table. I then downloaded the newest ones she has posted here. I installed them and they both worked fine. No problems at all except for the bleeding thru the windows with the changing table which I told her about and she is going to see if she can fix it. But if you look at the ones from Maxis you will see that they all bleed thru. As to your problem all I can say is try removing them and re-installing.

Not until you pointed it out:) I tried it and the mom tried to pickup the toy but then just dropped it again. I did not modify any of the behaviours for this object, so I'm not sure what the problem is. I'll have to put this one on my list to revisit when I understand hacking.

Thank you very much for posting this and I love the new crib addition! I especially like the way you've managed to link your object to Maxis covers, etc.

If there is any way to create a matching High Chair please do it! hehe I was wondering if it were possible to have the high chair use the Maxis cushions as well? Or if not to just have a plain wooden matching highchair with wood covers? Pretty please hehe

Pippi420, the craddle is the crib here! So you need to download the SS_Sleigh_Crib.

bulldogzbabe, do you have WinRar? you need it to unzip and install the items. Onlce you get it install them into the download folder inside you sims 2 game.

As requested here is the High Chair.

Jem
29th Mar 2005, 03:33 AM
another problem with the high chair is this.

I have problems with the dad doing much of anything with the toddler. Mom put toddler into the high chair, feed toddler, and was able to remove toddler. But when dad put toddler into the high chair he couldn't give the bottle to toddler nor could he seem to remove the toddler from it.

I'm going to check this again tonight. I'll post if I find out anything more. It may have just been that dad.

The only problem is when the toddlers start getting cranky, and want to get out of their bed, and they start shaking on the sides of their beds'... But with the regluar crib there are sides to shake on, but this one there are none, so it looks like they are doing some odd zombie dance... :)

SnowStorm

The single and double sleigh bed are done and in the final stages of testing. I should be posting them tonight. I've just started the Armoire. This may take a bit as it's trickier to do to retain the animations. I'm following a tutorial somebody posted so cross your fingers!

Had the download some days ago, but today I had my first simbaby in your sleigh-collection.
It works perfectly fine and it looks so much better than the Maxis ones.
Thank you so much for doing and sharing!
(And I shall be one of the first to download your sleighbeds ;D )

I am a bit late into this fantastic thread :) There are 2 high chairs. Should I get both or choose one of them? If I should choose, what is the difference?

If you've never downloaded then grab the first zip as it contains the recolors for the frame and the cushions.

The second zip is if you've already got the recolors and just need the updated high chair.

I have no problem with recolors. To do a bedding recolor you would actually create a recolor from the original maxis crib. As both my crib and the toddler bed use it. The toddler bed uses just the lower three panels on the texture for the pillows. I'd suggest linking to this thread if you post the recolors as lots of people seem to be intersted in some. As for the frames, if you wish to recolor those. Please link in this thread so others can use it.

Can't wait:)

I've edited the original post to try to clarify the high chair files and add info to help people who want to recolor.

Love the sleigh objects!! Two problems, though. With the toybox, the kids go to put the toys away and just keep putting them back on the floor. With the crib, the parents just keep waking the toddlers up and putting them down, them picking them up and putting them back in!!! The toddler bed is great, though!!! They do wake the kids up in that too, but not half as much!!! Thank you for all the hard work!!!

giannaiansmom, when I tested it I found that if you have mom put the kids to bed they stay lol . just seems to be dad's that wont let the kids sleep. Even young master broke not the toddler leaves the kid to sleep. Also I made sure as soon as dad put the kid to bed he had to leave the room. Then he left the kid sleep.

This whole set is just beautiful. Thank yo so much for giving me the chance to try it. I have used the toddler bed...works great (dont care about how they pull themselves up), the toy box, same works great (dispose of those darn toys who needs 'um). I am thrilled to see the new beds and dresser...and especially the high chair. I am running off to install and play. Thanks again.

Well, I just want to report, that my sims (different sims in different houses) are not able to give the bottle or food to the toddlers sitting in the highchair. Just standing in front of the high chair and "freeze".
So I don't use the highchair now - but the other stuff works fine.

I am waiting for a few sets of recolors for the sheets before I download. Need more options. So once that is done I will get the toddler bed. Thanks and nice job on the object!

SnowStorm
13th Apr 2005, 04:05 PM
There are a couple sheet options posted already. (Do a forum search on "sleigh". BUT the bedding uses the same as the Maxis Crib. So any bedding recolor you find for the Maxis crib will show up for the toddler bed and sleigh crib also.

Hi, I tested this set and found a few oddities. For instance once the kids take the toys out of the toy boxes they can't be put back in. When I directed my Sims to put the toys away, the toy box reacted like a dresser and gave me the clothing options to change my childs clothing.

In the high chair - my Sim mom had no problem putting her child in the chair and giving her food, but when I tried getting her to take the child out she just froze. I had the same thing happen with the toddler bed. In both cases I had to repeatedly tell the mom to take the child out. It reminded me of the problem I have in my Sims houses with nannies or dads in the house. Only problem this house has no nanny or other adult. The moms a single mother artist who paints masterpieces from home, and cares for her infant.

The beds and armoire work great and all looks great in the game, but I had to take the toddler bed, toy box, and high chair out, because my toddler spent over half her waking time unable to be removed from them.

Just thought I'd let you know. Your work is so nice to look at, I really hated removing them.

I've had a couple people report on the freezing. I'm not sure what is up with that. I know about the toy box not letting the toys be put away, but I haven't figured out how to fix that.

Now the toybox acting like a dresser is a new one on me:)

On the high chair which version do you have? Does the tray move on the one you have?

17th Apr 2005, 07:49 PM
kinda sorry to make a long thread even longer, but really want to add my thanks. I LOVE that toddler bed!!!!! LOVE IT! Also really like that the toys cannot be put away, what kid doesn't leave their toys laying around?

Don't suppose there's any way to make it so that textures for the maxis toybox are available for yours? That would be purfect!

Also, I appreciate the fact very much that from the way your post is worded you seem to be very organized, always a good sign. Have not yet done any research on those oh so mysterious polygons, but until some brainiac tells me it doesn't matter to my system, could you include polygon count? (just for my own comparision purposes. Let's say I can have 10,000X small poly objects, 1000X medium, and 10X rediculously high for instance and game still runs great. But I need to keep track of those last 10!) And to slip off topic just a tad, why does only a few people seem to care about polygon count? Anybody welcome to pm me with the answer or better yet post a new thread explaining why they're so important. *never mind, putting this in requests forum!

While usually I'm quite silly, I'm a utter freak when it comes to efficiently running processes, and being techno geeky/picky about good file management, etc. No excuse for uploading even a beta test until somebody's done all their possible homework. sorry I'm so anal, know not everyone shares my view (and I too am guilty of getting excited/impatient to do/ask something).

Hi, SnowStorm, I absolutely love your furniture and decor...However, I had to delete the crib and toddler bed because I have found that the parents will not let the toddlers alone if they are in either the crib or bed.

Not sure what is happening, but I have had this happening in two houses until I finally realized it had to be the bed/crib. The toddlers can't seem to get any sleep! This did not happen to infants, only toddlers. And only in rooms with more than one infant or toddler. In the house that I had both an toddler bed and a crib (even if the crib was not sleigh style), the parent/older sibling just kept taking the toddler from the crib to the toddler bed, back and forth. If the infant was in the crib or the toddler bed already they would leave the infant alone but take the toddler out and back in over and over, as long as the toddler was in sleigh style furniture.

I just wanted to let you know, and I'll keep an eye out for updates. Great work aside from my problems!
