Sorry to be "that" person, but whoever was going to post the big "WE'VE MOVED" picture at the end of the old thread should probably do it. I'd be happy to make and post a picture myself, but I don't want to step on any toes.

@charmed- That's quite weird about Lucky Palms. Have you checked to make sure all your CC is good and not corrupt or anything? I can't imagine why an EA world would cause your game to crash. Have you tried the help section? They have some useful articles about crashing and the like.

I'm thinking about eventually moving my legacy family to LP. Jericho is awesome, but it's so slow and laggy. I really do love it though...

@Buckley: I read that a mod was incompatible with it right now. But when I went to the mod download, it was said that that wasn't the issue. Right now, it's no big deal. I have other glitches I'd rather get fixed right now.

I hope Lucky Palms doesn't give my computer a heart attack. I moved Morgan and Co. there because I liked it. I also tried to cull some store content to see if that helps with the lag for a while.

I guess I am really lucky. Even with some glitches, I have managed to keep my family in Barnacle Bay for an entire year.

These past few days I've been getting caught up on Heaven's legacy. She really goes out of her way for the screenshots, it's pretty cool. I'd never have the patience to build an actual prom stage. xD

I usually just lurk and don't post, but I really like the random legacy. Do you think the rules should be modified to add the new gambling skill to one of the carreer/money making options. Not sure who to make this suggestion to.

Gambling skill? Is that store content, to go with Lucky Palms? I've not looked into it.

But basically any way to make significant cash needs to be covered in a career or banned from the challenge. We favor turning it into a career, if we can.

The only exception is owning properties around town, which we decided to simply allow rather than try to make a career of it.

Opportunities are also exceptions; they can be very profitable, but are random.

I think we do need to get around to banning the inheritance reward.

I don't think many of us use the inheritance reward anyway do to the cheaty feel of it. But I'm all for banning it. I also think gambling should be allowed.

Anyway, I've got an update:

I'm not sure how gambling works. If it's like real gambling, where you usually lose, then it's not a viable career option and should be allowed for all sims to waste simoleons on.

But if your sim is pretty much guaranteed to come out on top, even if they have to skill it first, then it should be a career.

Gambling? A career? That's going to be on my "banned" list for sure if we decide to add it to the rolls. Although it does have some interesting story potential, I just loathe the idea of having my heir spend all of his days at the casino. It seems like it would get boring awfully fast as there are (currently) only two gambling machines. Plus, where's the challenge? Admittedly, the other careers aren't exactly hard either, but they're more involved than just pulling a lever on the slot machine or sitting at a card table. Whatever y'all decide, though, is fine. I won't pitch a fit or anything. xD

If we're discussing banning certain LTRs, I think the genie needs to be forbidden also. It only costs 30K points, but you can wish for 100K Simoleons three times over. For the same price as the inheritance reward, you get oodles more money. Just some food for thought.

Like I said, I don't know anything about this gambling skill, so I'm just guessing at what we should do.

IF the net gain on gambling is always positive once the gambling skill is high, but playing a gambler would be boring, maybe we could combine it with some other weird careers we have. Like, Freelance Scientist is a combination of many activities you can make money with, but wouldn't be satisfying on their own. But gambling would not fit with Freelance Scientist. Hmm.

Genie lamps can be obtained without the rewards system. I'm of the opinion that they could be OK for storytelling, if the player really had a good idea for how to handle them; not all of the wishes are huge cheats. Maybe we should just ban getting a lamp through lifetime happiness points, and ban wishing for "long life" and "fortune", if one should obtain a lamp through other means.

The genie lifestate itself has a kind of cheatyness to it, like vampirism, but we've been letting vampirism slide and allowing players to kind of self-regulate those.

Well, I'm trying a legacy without the story part. When I do the story, I get distracted by that, so I'm just trying to get through to the end for once without worrying about story reasons for hunting down mates and getting caught up in characters and the like. So far it's working. I thought I'd share my people, even though it's not as interesting as a story. Once I can actually play through a legacy, I might try chronicling again.

My founders were Jamal and Illona Klaasen. Illona is a classical musician, Jamal a self employed inventer. They have two children, Logan and Zac (Zachary). Logan is heir. I had perfect children and hands off, which was mildly exasperating. Technically I failed perfect children as I didn't get the block table, but I just couldn't figure out how.

Logan will be in Professional sports. I hunted down a girlfriend for him (invited her over the day she aged up to teen so that Story Progression wouldn't pair her off!) and she will be a photographer.

I managed to get the stuff packs I didn't have and showtime on sale the other day (yay!), so I might choose a showtime career for my third gen.

I don't know much about the gambling skill either, but it seems pretty one-dimensional. You play the machines, you gain the skill (or so I imagine). I was hoping Carl's guide would have an article about it, but I couldn't find one. If I remember, I'll play around with the gambling machines tomorrow to get a better feel for it, but personally I'd prefer to keep it optional so that my Simmies can play for fun. If it's a career, then gambling would be forbidden when my heir hasn't rolled it. Again though, I'm fine with whatever the group decides.

As for the genie, I simply meant that the LTR should be banned. If you get the lamp by other methods, then I don't have a problem with it. Or, if we just ban the money and life-extending wishes, that would be fine too. However, if we start banning the life-extending tricks, we would have to add some of the generation rewards to the mix as well. Ugh, this gets complicated!

It all depends on how strict we want the rules to be. Honestly, I worry more about scaring away new players than alienating the regulars. Most of us on here don't hesitate to bend the rules whenever we roll something intolerable or if we have a plot idea we want to see through. I'm all for clarifying the fuzzier points of the challenge, but I can definitely see the benefit of leaving the rules somewhat ambiguous.

@Tamlyn- Glad you've found something that will work for you! It's definitely easy to get caught up in the story aspect over the playing part. I'm guilty of that myself. What world are you playing your legacy in? Also, any chance you'll show us a picture of your heir?

I see your point about the gambling. That's why I hope EA made it "realistic", so we can all play without worry of exploit.

With every new expansion pack, the challenge rules become weirder. Extending life was banned, but it specifically named life fruit, forgetting about death flowers. Then all these other ways to extend life popped up.

I've only tested the gambling skill a bit and I'm sure some person smarter than me can figure out a way to make tons of money with it.

Once you earn one skill point in it, it does not seem to take long to get to skill level 10. Both my sims ending up in the postive side of winning compared to loosing. While your building up to level 10 it seems your close to breaking even with money.

Hi! I've gotten addicted to reading the Random Legacy blogs out there (thanks a lot, Reya and heaven! ) - and my contest entry for the Story Time contest is now using a Random Legacy family. The story itself will be starting at Generation 2 (or maybe I'll end up calling it Generation 1 afterwards), and once the contest is done, I'll start up a blog for it.

In the meantime... check out the first chapter!

ETA: Also, that's my Gen 2 heir Sapphira Thorpe and one of the two Gen 3 children, Mika, in my avatar. I caught that picture and couldn't resist squeeing over it.

I have an update:- http://clemetislegacy.blogspot.co.u...-sixty-two.html

So far as the gambling is concerned, I'm guessing that's from the latest premium content from the store? Personally I doubt I'll be getting it, but I think if it's very profitable then it should go into a career and if it's got a decent probability of your sim losing money then it should just be left.

Edit to add: I could do with a couple of Chinese sims to add in if anyone's got any recommendations

Hate to double post.... but Cali, you mentioned on Becky's story that you had a mod that let you buy WA stuff at the grocery store. Do you have a link handy? I've been looking for it but can't find it on MTS anywhere.

I've not really played yet with these rules so I can't really do much but give my unenlightened opinion. To me, the gambling skill seems like it would be especially boring for an actual roll. I can see it being rather handy for certain plot points in story-telling but not as a full-fledged career. However, if the more seasoned players think it should be one, I can easily turn it off. So either way, it doesn't concern me too much.

Also, I just ordered and received my new computer so, starting with chapter 5.1 (2 chapters from where I am or so), I will have a brand new computer with hopefully NO lag and lots and lots of lovely graphics. I am certainly looking forward to it!
