Default What are you making for the elders theme?
What are you all making for the elders theme? I have NO clue lol.

I actually had items for the last two, and didn't get them done, so theme catchup 2019 will be an interesting theme for me

Post your ideas/wants/what are you makings, even if you aren't making it yourself, as some of us would love some ideas! "er me anyway "

The easiest thing, of course, is clothing, and we all need more elder clothing - on a variety of meshes, since some people prefer the Maxis elder bodyshape and some people loathe it and some people want to be able to mix and match so that there's a difference between late middle age and venerability.

But I would like to ask hair meshers to consider the wide variety of ways male pattern baldness manifests, and give us more balding hairs! Large afros with bald spots! Popular meshes that are thinner in the back and higher in the forehead! Pepper-and-salt facial hair would also be good. And though I have a number of female hairs with colors available to elders, I don't have any for men, even though men are just as likely to dye their hair or to retain their youthful color into their elder years.

As for other things, I am toying with the idea of making a Retirement Community lot, but this is very vague.

Ugly is in the heart of the beholder.

So there will be a catch up at some point? I missed the Space theme :-(

I intend to make some retirement greetings cards (to use with MogHughson's Postal System) for the Elders theme.

I would love to see more clothing for elders (using the EAxis elder body meshes), more balding hairstyles and greying hairstyles (available for adults and elders, preferably). I would love to see retirement homes, "nursing homes", multi-generational hotels/holiday destinations, day centres and any other lots which may make sense for elders. And I guess activities which are stereotypically associated with elders/retired people, like knitting, gardening, fishing and so on (and they would be useful for other lifetsages as well).

I'm making nothing, because I don't know how to make anything for sims. I'm just here to appreciate everyone else's work, and I love the theme.

I will try to recreate my paternal grandparents' home. It won't be easy, but I'll see what I can come up with.

Nice Rachel we're having.

I was just recoloring some adult elder male clothes today. I'm not very good at it but I'll keep at it and see what happens. I'm not sure if I will upload to the theme or not.

What sort of elder male stuff do you guys want? Do you want more recolors for "larger older people?"

I am planning on trying two new areas, cards (Golden Anniversary and elder birthday) and pictures.

As to what I want to see, I really want to see regular hair, coloured streaked with grey. Subtle grey for those just turned elder. I also want to see clothes, done on the adult body and elder body. There is a line between too young and too old and finding that in sim clothes has been hard.

I thought about making a scout master career for elders to be scout masters, and then a corresponding teen career for say "sim scouts"

it would be a part time, after school time career, that would follow the same hours as teen one. The teen one wouldn't pay money, and the elder one I am not sure about.

just an idea.

How about 'Bingo Night' as an elder career with a chance to come home with a chance card, something small if they win or a small loss of money when they don't. Maybe once or twice a week.

I just made my first terrain, I had never even tried before, but that was simple. The recouring of objects has been harder because I wasn't at all familiar with any form of photoshop, but I have a few of those up now.

If I was better at making sims, I'd recreate the Golden Girls cast, but knowing my skills, they'll only end up being in my game because I can't make accurate sims.

Love this idea, Jo!

I was thinking of doing something like this for the 'Bowling Club' idea I mentioned in the thread about casting a vote. Thought having bowling as a career (that is only scheduled one day per week ) would be a nice alternative for those that did not want to get their elder sims together for actual bowling.

Also, thinking about making a 'Book Club' career that meets one day per week as well, and some posters for advertising these activities (that can be placed at a local library, town hall or community center). Decisions, decisions.

Wish I could do some clothing, 'cause elders really need some love in that department. But alas, I suck at that kind of stuff - Body Shop and I have a very limited relationship.

Ooh, would these posters be functional in terms of allowing sims to join the club in question - like MogHughson's job noticeboard, but specific to the activity being advertised on the poster? Because that'd be really nifty.

While I'm quite tempted to build a "retirement community" type lot (with self-contained apartments for older sims & lots of community areas dedicated to socialising & hobbies), I suspect real life will continue to get in the way of simming & prevent me from making anything... I'll be following the theme with interest though!

It depends. And the source would be a little weird.

I made a rich Sim for one of my other rich Sims in Uni. Like her fiance, she would not be the sort to stay in a dorm. It's not that she's a snob ... she just prefers her own place. I really don't want to go Francis J. Worthington III, though ... she's not THAT rich. I'm finding it hard to locate a 2x1 lot in the style I'm considering ... not too modern, not too old. 1x1 is too small. I saw maaaaaybe one 2x1 lot close to that description, and I'm not sure there will be Seasons issues. And if I fix it, I ruin the charm of the place. Also, the architectural style is waaay too old for the hood in question. 2x1 lots fitting my preferences are awfully hard to find! And when I can't find such a lot, I make one! I've shown a few examples of my odd tastes here.

So what does that have to do with ELDERS? What if, what if ... I make a little place suitable for an elder AND a college student, but mix up the decorating style a little? A 2x1 lot might be a nice downsized place for a retiree, and I can keep my mother's needs in mind when I design it. Make it a little more modern, and my college student can stay in a copy of it as well. It could be a professor's old house ... but not THAT old ... and the professor has long moved to the main hood. Extra points if I find real-life retro house plans that suit the bill. I DID say old, but not TOO old!

I would make the skeleton of the house in a clean game main hood, of course and prepare it just in case I upload it. Residences get weird if you make them on a Uni lot. I found out the hard way.

Or I can be lazy and lot-shrink a lot I already have. I'm not sure yet.

EDIT ... OK. I got a little lazy and downloaded a delightful lot here. But the idea intrigues me, and my rich family has a whole lot of kids. There are some lovely floor plans to consider.

Thanks to ALL free-site creators, admins and mods.

RIP Sunni ... truly a ray of light.

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey... that was MY joke!

How about some elder group activities for a senior center park? Shuffleboard, Bocce ball, ummm... knitting circles? Knitting could be +Arts & Crafts enthusiasm too, while the others would be +games /+sports. And made so these wouldn't cause a MAJOR drain on elders' energy.

We never did get checkers, but that'd be virtually the same as chess. They can already play cards and majong.

It'd be nice if they could feed pigeons in the park, but... first, we'd need pigeons. And then a bird seed vendor.

Maybe as a work-style event, they could form an a capella group or a barber shop quartet... I'd love to see them getting ready for work and dressing in straw hats, red-and-white striped jackets, and white dress slacks, to go off and earn §35 for their efforts!

How about the ability to "talk about ancestry"... they would talk about people in their family tree. Perhaps the reaction would depend on whether the listening sim is nice or grouchy, with adjustments for whether or not they are relatives and/or knowledge sims, who would probably enjoy it more.

And the NUMBER ONE THING I'D LOVE TO SEE MOST COMING FROM AN ELDERS THEME:
- The ability to choose to restrict an AL Apartment lot by age, in order to make an ELDERS ONLY complex!!
thank you.

I'm sure I won't end up making anything for this theme, but some of the stereotypically elder-themed things in the world today do seem ripe for creating in the world of the Sims... One that immediately springs to mind would be an Elder->Elder social interaction (kind of like how some interactions are limited to Children->Children, etc) to "Show Pictures of Grandchildren." You could actually get a lot of mileage out of Elder-Elder interactions... "Complain about kids these days," and "Talk about doctor visits," also spring to mind, and maybe "Tell about 'back in my day'" as an Elder->Teen interaction...

I like that idea, Zarathustra! Talk about arthritis... Talk about vitamins... Talk about home remedies... Talk about ungrateful children... Talk about bunions... Talk about constipation...

How about an anti-Crumplebottom elder gentleman -- Mr. Presstop, who encourages youngsters, tells them stories of the olden days, hands out butterscotch candies, and performs tricks where he always winds up finding §5 in kids' ears, and giving it to them. hahahha...

Well you can use the visitor controller on other lots to make it elder only. Or for apartments, use the no townie neighbours mod and just move in playable elders.
