Picket Fences! Part 57

At Ryan Sawyer's place . . .

His houseboat was decorated in red, white and blue for a "Going Away Party". His grandson Noah Alan joined the Navy and is leaving tomorrow. The family and a few close friends were invited.

Nathan was chatting with Noah, who was sporting his new GI haircut and his Navy uniform.

Shannan handed their daughter Lauren to Jonathan.

Then she played Red Hands with their son Sean.

Sean chatted with Noah.

Then he asked Jonathan to play Red Hands.

Ryan's girlfriend Mary and . . .

Kevin's girlfriend Heather had been invited.

Claudia and Rhys were sitting together.

The following are some candid shots from the party:

When the party ended and everybody had said their goodbyes to Noah . . .

The family and guests left to go home.

The following morning over at Claudia's place . . .

Noah was playing Punch U-Punch Me with Rhys.

Claudia was still upset that Noah was leaving.

"You won this time, but I want a rematch when I come home on leave", said Noah.

Bye Dad, I'm going to miss you", he said, giving Rhys a hug goodbye.

Noah went into the kitchen to say goodbye to Claudia.

"I'm leaving now Mama. The taxicab just stopped in front of the house", he said.

"Let me know when you have the baby", he said.

"Alright, I will", she said.

"Bye Mama, I love you", he said.

"Bye sweetheart, I love you, too", she said.

"I'm going to miss you", he said.

When the taxicab driver blew the horn for the third time . . . Noah hurried out of the house.

He got into the taxicab. He was leaving the only home he had ever known . . .

But he was looking forward to seeing a whole different world.

At 10 A.M. over at Julie and Nathan's house the Social Worker's van pulled up across the street.

She got out, reached inside the van and took out a cute toddler.

When Nathan came outside, the Social Worker put her down on the grass.

"Here's Amanda, your daughter", she said. Then she got back in the van and drove away.

Julie ran over and picked her up.

"Hello Amanda, I'm your mama", she said.

She took her into the nursery. Amanda went straight for the dollhouse and Nathan joined her in playing with it.

Julie watched for a few minutes, then went into the livingroom.

Nathan came into the livingroom . . .

"Are you as happy as I am?", he asked.

"Yes, I have everything I ever wanted", said Julie.

"Do you think Amanda remembers anything before she came here?", asked Julie.

"We're her parents now. I think she's too little to remember anyone else", he said.

"I really didn't expect her to be so beautiful. I can't help but wonder what they looked like", said Julie.

"She's ours now, that's all that matters", he said.

Julie went back into the nursery to play dollhouse with her daughter.

That afternoon at Heather and Mary's place . . .

Mary called Ryan and invited his over and . . .

Heather called Kevin and invited him.

Heather and Kevin cuddled on one of the loveseats.

And Mary and Ryan cuddled on the other one.

There's something I've been wanting to ask you", said Kevin.

Then they stood up and he got down on one knee and said "Heather will you be engaged to me?"

He held up a small box that contained a diamond ring.

"Yes!", she said.

Heather placed it on her finger and admired it while he waited for her answer.

"You've made me so happy", she said.

"Don't you go getting no ideas, just because Kevin proposed to Heather", said Ryan.

"Just you wait, I'll make you change your mind someday", she said, nuzzeling his neck.

"Don't hold your breath!", he laughed.

"Let's go inside and leave the lovebirds to themselves", said Ryan.

"Mary, do you love me?", he asked.

"You know I do", she said.

"So why won't you do woo hoo with me then?", he asked.

"Like I tell you every time you ask, I'm not doing THAT until I have a wedding ring on my finger", she said.

"There's plenty of other women who will and they don't need no dumb ring!", he shouted.

"If that's what you want, go right ahead and get you one!", she shouted.

"I already did! She's going to have my baby!", shouted Ryan.

"Just because your daddy has women agreeing to share him, doesn't mean I'm going to share you. Ryan, you're NOT your daddy.

"Get out!", shouted Mary.

Then Ryan left to go home.

Across town at Mary Lou and Peter's house . . .

They had a family birthday party for their youngest daughter Carrie, who wasn't very excited about growing up. In fact she looked rather bored with the whole thing.

She did manage to become interested enough to make a wish and blow out the candles on her cake.

She started growing up.

And grew up into a cute adult.

In fact Carrie looked like a taller version of her teenage self.

Being throughly bored with her parents' conversation after a few minutes . . .

She went out on the back porch and sit in the swing.

All of a sudden, Ryan jumped over the porch railing and . . .

Landed at her feet.

"Hey, what are you doing over here?", she said.

"I came over to wish you a happy birthday", said Ryan.

"You didn't grow up too bad looking", he said.

"Is that suppose to be a compliment?", she asked.

"Sure, if you want to take it as one", he said.

"What's wrong? You look like you lost your best friend", said Carrie.

"I think I did", he said.

"Huh?", she said.

"Never mind", he said.

"Look, I know I'm just adverage looking", she said.

"No, I was just joking before. You are kinda pretty", he said.

"Thank you for saying so", she said.

"You want to go over to my place?", he asked.

"Sure, it's got to be more to do there than it is here", said Carrie.

Carrie walked down the stairs and . . .

Ryan jumped off the porch by going over the railing.

"Don't you ever use the stairs?", she asked.

"It's more fun not to", he said.

They walked across the street to his place.

Ryan tickled Carrie. She enjoyed his playfulness.

And he enjoyed teasing her.

"Wow, this is a great house! Do just you and your dad live here?", she said.

"Yeah, but he's not home much. He's over at Claudia's house today. Noah was leaving this morning to go into the Navy.", said Ryan.

Ryan sit on the sofa and asked Carrie to join.

"Come over here. I don't bite", he joked.

To be continued . . .
