Default The Random Legacy Challenge
Inspired by this challenge, I've put a twist on the classic legacy challenge. Like the original legacy, it runs for 10 generations, but each generation will have a set of requirements and goals that must be met, such as whether your heir is allowed to marry, whether they must have children biologically or adopt, how many children they must have, what career(or alternate money-earning venture) they're allowed to do, and generation challenges. You fail the challenge if you fail to meet one of the parameters by the time your heir and their spouse are both dead(or their last child ages to young adult, whichever is later). Use this link to generate random numbers(thanks to Six_by_Nine in the other thread who supplied the link!). A full set of rules and the rolling charts are in the next post.

CHANGES TO THE CHALLENGE:
7/7: Added a new generation goal(A Party To Remember) and a new miscellaneous fun(Homemade).
7/18: Added a new generation goal(Living Green), three new miscellaneous funs(Multi-Cultural, Half-Siblings, and Hoarder), two new career types(Job Hopper and Freelance Scientist) and several minor clarifications. I also finished a sentence in the rules that I'd inexplicably left unfinished. None of you who read the rules prior to today should seek work as proof-readers.
7/18 part 2: I forgot to paste the actual goal in the Living Green generation goal. Oops. Fixed now.
7/22: Added several clarifications and miscellaneous rules concerning awesomemod's super commander automation, ghost, servos and reward objects.

To Begin:
1. Set your aging to normal.
2. Roll the first generation's goals and restrictions, and note them down.
3. Create your starting sims in CAS. If your result for section A is single parent or adoptive parent, roll a single sim. If your result is a couple, you may roll the couple at once if you'd like.
4. Move them onto an empty lot of your choice. You may not change this lot during play, so choose carefully.

General Rules:
1. This challenge runs for 10 generations, until the children considered to be the 10th generation die of old age. It is not required to roll for the 11th generation, unless you want to continue playing past the end of the challenge.
2. You lose if you fail any of the randomized parameters that you're required to meet for the generation.
3. No cheating! This means maxmotives, motherlode, kaching, fastskill mods, and anything that gives you a clear advantage over other players. In addition to the obvious methods, you should avoid sneaky exploits such as compendium farming or using vacations as free time to train skills “off the clock”. See rule 7 for more information on skilling while away from home. The robotic hand of god from awesomemod is not considered to be cheating, and even if you don't use the mod you are welcome to perform the actions yourself.
4. No aging sims up early. You must wait for them to age up naturally, or use a cake on the day they would naturally age up(wait until it says 0 days in the age bar).
5. From each generation, choose a sim to become the heir. If a sim is not the chosen heir, they must be moved out(kicked out or moved to a new house) of the household within 24 sim hours of aging up to young adult. The parents of the previous generation may remain in the household.
6. If you have ambitions, you must enable laundry by placing at least one hamper on the lot on day 1.
7. If you have world adventures, you must not use vacation destinations to have free skilling days. You are allowed to freely skill photography, martial arts and nectar making while away from home. Other skills must not be skilled or practiced, unless you use a mod such as awesomemod that allows you to scale the difficulty(set it to at least 3x the normal difficulty). Training that comes as a side effect of anything required for an adventure opportunity is allowed, as is athletics training while pushing things around in tombs or practicing martial arts. But don't abuse this provision.
8. If I make changes to these rules, I will edit this post and leave a note in the first post of the thread stating what was changed. The new rules take effect with the next generation rolled after the changes have been made.

Minor Clarifications, Allowed Mods, and Other Miscellaneous Stuffage:
1. You can use any lifetime happiness rewards, unless the rules specifically say you can't. See #5-7 below.
2. Twallan's career mod is ok to use, for the different schools as well as for the part-time careers.
3. You may make money freely using any method that isn't covered as an income type, with the exception that you may not sell klepto'd items unless you're currently in the criminal career track.
4. Resurrecting ghosts is not allowed, unless specifically stated.
5. Servos are allowed, but not the ones from the reward object, because those are too easy to get. You may invent as many servos as you can, but they all must move out or otherwise be removed from the household by the time the next generation becomes a young adult. All the servos you create may help with chores around the house, or as babysitters, but may not have a career or earn money, just like an unemployed sim.
6. The Moodlet Modifier is allowed, but with caveats. It is a very cheaty item, and if one of your sims purchases it, it's not allowed to leave their inventory. They are the only ones who can moodlet modify any other sims, and you can only operate the moodlet modifier on a particular sim once every sim day. When the owning sim dies, get rid of it somehow(selling it is ok if it has a sell value).
7. The food replicator thing is allowed, unless you've rolled homemade or living green.
8. Super Commander from awesomemod is rumored to now have the capability to automate some ambitions jobs. Do not use this. Automation of skilling/collecting and other careers is fine.

A. Marital Structure
1-3) Single Parent - You must not retain a spouse or partner on the lot. If your heir is female, you aren't allowed to move in the father of any children they may have. If your heir is male, the mother may be moved in for the pregnancy but must leave the lot within 24 sim hours of giving birth. Do not roll for section D.
4) Adoptive Single Parent – You must not retain a spouse or partner on the lot. In addition, you must obtain all of your children via adoption. Do not roll for section D.
5-9) Couple – You must obtain a spouse or unmarried partner.
10) Adoptive Couple – You must obtain a spouse or unmarried couple. In addition, you must obtain all of your children via adoption.

B. Number of Children – Note that exceeding this number by having accidental twins or triplets is ok, but you must not have any more children after that.
1-2) 1
3-6) 2
7-8) 3
9) 4
10) 5

C. Primary Income (Roll between 1 and 20)
1-10) Standard Career – Roll on chart C1 to determine which.
10-14) Non-Standard Career – Roll on chart C2 to determine which. If you have ambitions, you may join the jobs offered through the town hall(such as painter, sculptor, writer, etc).
14-19) Ambitions Job – Roll on chart C3 to determine which. If you don't have the ambitions expansion, re-roll for this section.
20) Job Hopper - Must play a sequence of careers in order, playing each career until you reach level 5(careers or professions), or for a week in sim-time(part time and non-standard careers). Roll ten times for the different careers, and play them in the order you rolled them.

C1. Standard Career List (Roll between 1 and 13)
1) Business
2) Criminal
3) Culinary
4) Journalism
5) Law Enforcement (Forensics)
6) Law Enforcement (Super Spy)
7) Medical – If you have ambitions, take Education instead.
8) Military
9) Music (Classical)
10) Music (Rock Star)
11) Political
12) Professional Sports
13) Science

C2. Non-Standard Career List (Roll between 1 and 10)
1) Collecting – Collect objects such as bugs, rocks and gems, and sell them to earn money. Alchemy and smelting/gem cutting is allowed.
2) Farmer – Grow and sell your own produce. Nectar Making is considered part of farming, if you have world adventures.
3) Fishersim – Sell what you can fish up.
4) Author – Write books and live off of royalties.
5) Artist – Paint or sculpt(or both!) and sell the finished products.
6) Inventor – Sell the fruits of your workbench. Re-roll if you don't have ambitions.
7) Busker – Busk with your guitar(or snakecharming basket, if you have world adventures) on community lots to earn money.
8) Freelance Photographer – Sell photos you take. Re-roll if you don't have world adventures.
9) Adventurer – Hunt for relics in faraway lands to sell. Re-roll if you don't have world adventures.
10) Freelance Scientist - Devoted to logic and reason, but not feeling the 9-5 laboratory grind? Spend your time searching the galaxy, solving problems over the computer, and hacking instead.

C3. Ambitions Job List (Roll between 1 and 6)
1) Architect
2) Firefighter
3) Ghost Hunting
4) Medical
5) Private Investigator
6) Stylist

D. Secondary Income (Roll between 1 and 20)
1-2) Standard Career – Roll on chart C1 to determine which.
3-9) Non-Standard Career – Roll on chart C2 to determine which.
10-11) Ambitions Job – Roll on chart C3 to determine which. If you don't have the ambitions expansion, re-roll for this section.
12-17) Part Time Job – Your choice, as there's not much functional difference.
18-19) None – This sim must not work to earn money. This means they may not sell paintings or other art objects(though they may create them), write novels, sell collected items, etc. They are allowed to earn money through opportunities, however.
20) Job Hopper - Must play a sequence of careers in order, playing each career until you reach level 5(careers or professions), or for a week in sim-time(part time and non-standard careers). Roll ten times for the different careers, and play them in the order you rolled them.

E. Generation Goal (Roll between 1 and 7)
1) Perfect Children – All sim children must age up perfectly(with the exception of pregnancy, which is a bit random and out of your control). In addition, they must have maxed skills on the toddler and child toys. Specifically, they must have obtained all 3 levels on the peg box toy, xylophone, toy oven and play table, and have read all 9 toddler skill books(jimmy sprocket is not required). Also, as a teen, they must have obtained level 3 in a part time career(though they may quit the career before graduation). Note that it is not required to have all positive traits, but only to have had the option to choose all but the first two.
2) Perfect Careers – All careers and jobs for the heir(and the spouse, if applicable) must be raised to the highest level. In addition, all skills related to that career must be level 10. For example, if one sim is in the military career and the other is a sculptor, they must both have level 10 in their careers and the one sim must have maxed sculpting and the other maxed athletics and handiness. If one of your sims is a Job Hopper, they don't have to do anything special. If this doesn't apply to either of your adult sims(ie, one is an adventurer and the other has no career, or they both are job hoppers), then re-roll for this category.
3) Expansionist – Put at least one major expansion onto your house during this generation. Examples of expansions include a new nursery with space for all the toddler toys and an attached outdoor playground, a guest apartment for the previous generation elders to live in, or an artist's retreat with room for painters, sculptors and drafters to practice their art.
4) Fulfilled – Both your heir and their spouse(if applicable) must obtain their LTW. Changing the LTW via aspiration reward is allowed.
5) AWESOME! - You must accomplish something really awesome, preferably related to your heir's career or traits, though miscellaneous awesome is allowed. Examples of this include creating a sim bot, putting together a complete gallery of all Egyptian relics, finding and displaying all gems, bugs, or metals in the game, etc. Use your imagination – I'm sure there's something you can find to do. If you're blogging or otherwise writing a story about your sim family, make sure to mention the awesome you got up to.
6) A Party To Remember - Throw an epic party at your home lot with the following qualities:
* At least five guests
* Live entertainment - A sim performing a song on the guitar, or successful snake charming(if you have world adventures).
* A three-course meal - Appetizer, main course and dessert, all of at least very nice quality, laid out buffet style. You may cook these in advance, just serve them from the fridge. You may use the hand of god in this one instance, even if you're otherwise restricted from doing so
* A steady flow of drinks - You must serve very nice or better nectar if you have world adventures, otherwise serve juice.
* Drama - A breakup, a marriage, a death, a new baby, a birthday...the options are infinite, and only limited by your imagination. If you choose to throw a birthday or wedding party instead of a house party, the wedding or aging up counts for this category.
7) Living Green - Must live eco-consciously. These restrictions take effect when the heir of the generation they're rolled for becomes a young adult, and continues until the next generation's heir reaches young adulthood.
* Must never take taxis. Carpooling to work or using the fire engine is ok, but sims must bike at all other times. If a sim takes a taxi, that's ok, but cancel the action and give them whatever bike they'd lost asap. Sims caught out without a bike must walk or jog until they arrive at a lot where you can give them a bike.
* Must use an eco-friendly laundry system. This consists of the expensive washing machine and a clothesline(no dryer allowed!). You may have multiple washing machines and clotheslines.
* Must grow your own produce and fish your own fish. You may purchase meat, dairy, eggs, etc from the store, but nothing that you can normally grow in your own garden or fish out of water. Cake and baked goods from the toy oven are okay to eat. Your sim doesn't have to eat organic or vegetarian food, normal food is ok, as long as you've grown the produce yourself.
* Must not waste fuel flying around the world. Your sims may only take one vacation per week.
* If your sim invents, you may not purchase scrap. You must salvage it on your own.
* You may not purchase 'new' furniture via the buy mode this generation, with the exception of bikes, bike racks, and your eco-friendly laundry system. You must obtain it 'used' from the junkyard, or steal it from community lots and other homes. The exception is if you are playing generation 1, in which case you may purchase as many beds, cribs and hampers as necessary, all toddler/child toys, one fridge, one oven, two sinks, one toilet, one shower and one counter. There are no restrictions on build mode.
* Your sim must either create a new park/nature-themed lot from scratch, or improve significantly upon an existing lot. In both cases, the sim must fund the project by subtracting the cost of the improvements or entire lot from the family funds.

F. Miscellaneous Fun (Roll between 1 and 9)
1) Hands Off - You may not use the robotic hand of god function in awesomemod, or otherwise use your mouse to move things from one inventory to another, clean up laundry, dirty plates, etc. Let those sims clean up after themselves for a while, it won't kill them.
2) Random – Click the random button every time you're asked to pick traits. This applies to the heir in the current generation. For example, when generation 1 has their first child, they roll the rules for generation 2. “Random” comes up as one of those rules, so for this child and all of their siblings their traits must be randomized. But if that rule doesn't come up for generation 3, the children of the generation 2 heir don't need to be randomized. You may choose LTWs for the sims.
3) Runs in the Family – Pick a trait randomly. Every sim born this generation(see the definition in “Random” above) must have this trait before reaching young adulthood.
4) No Strangers – You may not call any service sims to the lot. This includes pizza delivery sims and babysitters; if both of your sims have to work, tough!
5) Partier – You must throw at least one party every sim week(sunday am-saturday pm).
6) Homemade - Your sims must only eat cooked dishes(no quick meals), and they can only cook a dish if they have the required ingredients in the refrigerator. In addition, they must harvest all produce and fish all fish on their own(it's allowed to harvest from community lots). You may purchase meat, eggs, etc(and milk, rice, etc if you're using a better ingrediants mod) from the store. You may eat food cooked with the toy oven, but may not eat cake or raw ingredients(if your sim does so autonomously you don't lose, but cancel the action the best you can).
7) Multi-Cultural - All children born to this generation(the children born at the time you roll this will be the parents) must be from another culture, or combination of cultures. Re-roll if you're supposed to adopt. For additional flavor, try to use items from different cultures when choosing outfits for your sims, and for decorating your home this generation. If you don't have World Adventures, then re-roll this section.
8) Half-Siblings - No two pregnancies or individual adoptions this generation may be with the same partner. Re-roll if you only need one child.
9) Hoarder - You may not sell items this generation(from when the heir becomes a young adult until the next generation's heir becomes a young adult). You may purchase new items via buy mode, but selling old items you don't want anymore is forbidden. You may sell objects related to your sim's job or career. For example, a painter may sell their paintings, and a farmer may sell their produce, but no sim may sell the ugly sofa their great-great-aunt thought was god's gift to simkind.

My legacy will start off with a couple who must have 5 children(yikes!). One spouse must work in the medical career(ambitions version), while the other must not have a career. The generation goal is to do something awesome, and the kleptomaniac trait runs in the family this generation.

Meet Rich and Jamie Rand. Or, well, meet them whenever I upload a picture. They are both family oriented kleptomaniacs, though they differ in that Rich is a friendly genius who loves to read while Jamie is a neat natural cook who hates the outdoors. Rich wants to become a world-renowned surgeon, while Jamie wants to raise 5 children from babies to teenagers. I'll update again later with some pictures and information about my generation 2 parameters once I've played for a bit.

This looks like a fun challenge, I love the idea of rolling new restrictions and goals for each generation. I've rolled my numbers but haven't made the Sims for it yet. I've rolled for a couple who will have 2 children. One spouse will be a Stylist, the other will have no income. The generation challenge is Perfect Children (I guess I know what the unemployed spouse will focus on, lol), and I will need a trait to have run in the family for this generation. That hasn't been picked yet, I'm going to get started creating the actual Sims tomorrow. :D

For the primary income roll (Section C), all the options give some means of making an income, even if it's a non-standard career of collecting gems and such and selling them. It's only in the Secondary Income section (for a two parent household) that you can get a no income roll.

This looks like an interesting challenge. I might try that for my future ninja legacy. (If you read PurpleBunny's Piratical Legacy, you can see why I am doing this. ^_^)

I just started my challenge, I'm having a great time with it. I'll post some pics later, but right now I have a question. I rolled the no income option for the spouse, and I was wondering about using the telescope, because when they discover a new star, they make a little money from it. Would this be in kind of the same category as making money through opportunities which is allowed, or would it be forbidden? I'm not looking to try to exploit this, lol, it's just my unemployed live-in boyfriend just rolled a wish to buy a telescope and I wondered if that might be forbidden as a money maker.

Okiedokie. I have a single woman- architect. She is to have two children, and they must be perfect. (I'm waiting until my first child is a teenager to have a second child. >.<) And every child in this generation's supposed to have one random trait in common. My first generation sim is called Isabelle Wendell. :D

So here are some pics from random legacy so far. I'm just starting the 5th day of the legacy. Sadly, I had a CTD in the middle of day 5, but luckily I saved a few Sim hours before the crash, so I only lost a little of what I did.
I rolled a couple who will have 2 children. Primary Income is a Stylist, secondary must not work. Their generation goal is Perfect Children, and their Misc item is Runs in the Family. They share the Vegetarian Trait. (I use Blackcat's food mod which gives vegetarians more vegetarian options, but also requires you to buy grocery items the base game doesn't, like bread for sandwiches and pasta for pasta dishes, so there's no advantage to my gameplay having it, since eating comes out costing more)

Meet Lakshmi Ramaswami and Maximus McDermott. Named for a goddess of wealth and beauty, Lakshmi's mission in life is to beautify everyone in her career as a Stylist. She grew up in Riverblossom Hills with her parents Sanjay and Priya, but she quickly grew tired of the sleepy rural town and moved to Sunset Valley, where she met her true love, Maximus.
Maximus also grew up in a small rural town, Riverview, and he would have been happy to stay there, living off the land, except his parents kept nagging him to cut his hair and get a job. So, he moved to Sunset Valley to pursue his jobless, long-haired hippie lifestyle in peace.
(Maximus is actually a clone of Maximus McDermott in Riverview, altered a bit in CAS)

Lakshmi started her Stylist career right away. She'd like to make everyone beautiful, but some people will just have to settle for beautiful on the inside, with new clothes.

When she's not busy with clients, Lakshmi gossips with tattoo artist Narcisa Vatos.

Maximus can't earn money, (He's like allergic to paying work) but he does enjoy tending his garden, which really helps keep the grocery bills down. He's also handy and maintains and upgrades the plumbing and appliances.

They haven't thought about starting a family yet (they aren't even married), but they certainly get in a lot of practice.

This is a great idea I love the randomness, it makes everyones story different
I've rolled mine but havent started yet..
I rolled an adoptive couple with 4 children, Culinary career for my primary and Painter-self employed for my secondary.
I have Ambitions and WA so I added the 4 other jobs to my roll for secondary (10-Painter, 11-Sculptor, 12-Writer, 13-Nectar maker).
I got Awesome! as the generation goal and runs in the family for the Fun one.
Should be interesting, I cant wait to start

The runs in the family trait was Hates the Outdoors.

I didnt see anything about this.

So it's the wee hours of the morning, and I'm bored, so I hacked together a little program to generate rules for this. Haven't put in generating random traits for More Fun #3, got bored and couldn't find a list of traits that was sorted usefully for filtering out inappropriate EPs, and it's very early. Just barely tested, but it didn't start MY computer on fire... download at own risk, only works for windows. Do not succumb to the temptation to reroll if you're not happy.

Edit: Put in the traits now, uploading a new version. Enjoy.

Edit: StaticEnigma has ported this for the mac! It's the second attachment below.

You can adopt any age of children you want, but keep in mind that 1) the earlier you adopt the more control you have over their development, and 2) if you adopt after toddler, you lose the perfect children challenge if you rolled it.

Two quick rules questions: Is it OK to adopt if you didn't roll adoption? And, can sims engage in secondary money-making activities in addition to the career rolled? (I'm thinking specifically: can my Journalist write novels as well? Not as a primary means of income, just something to do while boosting the Writing skill.)

Never mind the first of those: rereading, it's pretty clear that the intent is for sims that don't specifically roll for adoption to have biological children.

Hmmm, it seems the Generation Goal and More Fun areas are too limited. I'm trying to think of what extra ones to add when I try this challenge. Maybe something to do with creating a large garden, or some Ambitions or WA specific ones for those who have it.

I would like to clear up the little matter of my sanity as it has come into question. I am not in any way, shape, or form, sane. Insane? Hell yes!

People keep calling me 'evil.' I must be doing something right.

I'm starting out with a single sim woman who is family oriented and will have 5 children. She is artistic and virtuoso and is going to be in the classical music career, and wants to put at least one major expansion on her house. She is also very dramatic. The random trait that runs in this generation (even though I can't really say it runs in the family, since it's just 1 person) is genius.

For my first generation, I rolled up a couple with 1 child. One parent will work in Journalism, the other will have no income. The generation's goal is Perfect Careers, and for More Fun, I'm playing Hands Off their inventory.

Max Piazzo. He's brave, athletic and outgoing, though also a bit of a bookworm. He fancies himself a hard-hitting investigative reporter, with a lifetime wish to be a Star News Anchor.

And Shaena Piazzo, nee Eliot. She loves cooking, cleaning and gardening, though she finds this a little June Cleaver for comfort. She's also an artist and a musician. She loves making beautiful things, but hates to be troubled with commercial concerns. Her lifetime wish is to raise the Perfect Garden.

They grew up in the big city, married young and moved to the small coastal town of Sunset Valley to settle down and raise a family and a garden. Both of them very much want children... but not yet. They bought a beautiful piece of land overlooking the ocean and sat down to plan out their dream house... a house they can't afford to build yet, but it's only a matter of time. For the moment, they've built the garage and a little apartment above it that will become a guest house when the dream house is finished.

The makeover she did for her friend, the tattoo artist Narcissa, went over much better.

Lakshmi gets promoted and can now do in home makeovers. Gobbias Koffi approves, but Lakshmi thinks she isn't paid enough for this.

Back at home, Maximus tends the garden.

And takes care of the laundry.

Lakshmi discovers she's pregnant, and Maximus proposes marriage. (I play with Twallan's story progression, and Holly Alto just had a surprise pregnancy and shotgun wedding, so that's going around, lol). The couple considered going for a hyphenated name, but Ramaswami-McDermott was a bit much, so they settled on just keeping his name.

A few days later, the 2nd generation is born. It's a boy, Liam McDermott.
Generation 2 rolls Single parent, 3 children, Law Enforcement/Spy career, Expansionist and Hands Off.
That is assuming Lakshmi and Maximus can pull off the Perfect Children requirement. Luckily she's earned enough money to buy the required skill books and toys for the toddler days.
And they still need to have another child, but will wait until Liam has become a child for that.

Hmmm, it seems the Generation Goal and More Fun areas are too limited. I'm trying to think of what extra ones to add when I try this challenge. Maybe something to do with creating a large garden, or some Ambitions or WA specific ones for those who have it.

Feel free to share if you do! I was going for 10 in each section, but even though I came up with some nice ones they all contradicted other possible rolls in the previous categories. If you can come up with some that don't break under certain combinations of other parameters, I'll add them to the list.

I've been trying to play my family, but I've been getting repeated CTDs. Very annoying. I might have to make a new neighborhood and import them and start over.

Added a new generation goal, "A Party To Remember", which will work for any game combination but has extra options for world adventures.

A Party To Remember - Throw an epic party at your home lot with the following qualities:
* At least five guests

Also added a new miscellaneous fun, "Homemade", which is base-game only.

Homemade - Your sims must only eat cooked dishes(no quick meals), and they can only cook a dish if they have the required ingredients in the refrigerator. In addition, they must harvest all produce and fish all fish on their own(it's allowed to harvest from community lots). You may purchase meat, eggs, etc(and milk, rice, etc if you're using a better ingrediants mod) from the store.

Hey! Thanks for the great idea! I started this challenge yesterday with a single mom, 2 children, architect career, perfect children and one party per week. I've been playing Sims for YEARS and done many challenges, but I quickly crashed and burned on this one! Single mom could not earn enough money to even buy the books for the toddlers and keep the household running. There were days she went with almost no sleep! SAD! Architect career made me want to blow up some of the houses in my neighborhood. So, here's my question. Because I did not have perfect children or one party per week do I lose the challenge or just those parts of the challenge? Is there scoring? What if I had been on level 9 and this happened (probably wouldn't by then, but just asking). Do I lose and start all over? Am I taking this way too seriously? Hahahahaha.......

So, I've been thinking about this (while my sims are getting themselves established... though I'm having a bit of a break because a new kitten just walked into my life and I'm trying to make my husband let me keep him...) and I think it would be fun to have some more family structures. They're family styles many people (me, for example) never or rarely play:

11: Broken Home: Start with a couple, and acquire children however you'd like. Sometime after all children are born or adopted, the parents must get divorced. Be as friendly or unfriendly about it as you'd like. Move out one parent (you needn't keep the previous generation's heir if you don't want to) and, if you'd like, some of the kids--you'll need to keep at least one, to be the next heir. You must pay for an appropriate new home for the sims that are moved out.
12: Blended Family: Start with a single sim or couple, and acquire at least one child however you'd like. If you start with a couple, split them up through divorce or death after at least one child is born. Have the remaining parent marry someone with at least one child of their own. It's okay to exceed the number of children you rolled this way. If you still don't have as many as you need, have more with the new couple. When you choose your heir, it must be one of the children descended from the previous generation's heir.
13: It's Complicated: Do something complicated. The adults in your family are siblings or close friends who are both single parents and help each other out--count the children of both as children in this generation. With appropriate mods, do some sort of group marriage (if you're comfortable with that sort of thing). Have your sim marry a much older sim with a grown child, raise the offspring of that sim as your own (somehow). Play a single parent that only has children with foreigners. Whatever, somehow make family life strange for your sims.
